Abe Anjin(b.1938) is a Bizen ceramic artist outside the normal radar of Bizen fans. Yet, for hardcore fans he is a master Bizen potter and a must for any serious collection. Abe, along with Mori Togaku and Harada Shuroku, creates Bizen closest to the antique 16th century masterpieces. Abe has also created these last few years colored Bizen, like figures from the Edo period, in guinomi forms. This shishi eared low guinomi was fired about four times, first a Bizen firing---applied liquid clay slip ...click for details

This kutsu-'shoe' form chawan dates to 1971 after he built yet another new kiln and on the kodai is written hatsu-gama or 'first kiln' to signify that special oc ...click for details

The thing about tenmoku iron-glazed wares is that they change dramatically according to the lightning. In a dark zone they take on a shadowy persona and in the light they sparkle and dazzle; that is when the potter is better than good. Sasaki is. This jar attests to that and it's shown in different lighting settings; surely a piece to spark one's imagination in a cosmic way. In perfect condition with a signed box, 23.4cm.tallx18.2, stamped on base; more about Sasaki and other previews of ...click for details

We've offered many works by Yamada Kazub.1954) in the past, yet have had to wait many a moon to get his 'dancing fire' Shino works. Here are three guinomi-sake cups that are quite aptly named, as if the glaze personifies fire as it whirls around the kiln, and I'll leave that at that. Quite intense, each is about 5.5cm.tallx7, signed on base(the dark clay plays a roll in the glaze tones) and with signed boxes. Who knows when we'll offer more, it's been eight years since he ...click for details
