Mingei potter Ueda Tsuneji (1914-1987) was master of the Kinozara-yama kiln in Kyoto which he opened in 1936. A fine Bizen guinomi by current Living National Treasure Isezaki Jun(b.1936) in terms of the low, oval form and the very rich firing; the goma in the 'pool' is superb. An ishihaze-stone bursts out from one side and on the kodai-foot a smaller one did the same creating a minor firing crack on the foot. In perfect condition with a signed box, 3.8cm.tallx7.5x7.1, signed on base and dates to 2006. Please also enjoy the Usui Kazunari exhibition now online and here at our Mishima gallery.

Toki City Intangible Cultural Property Sakai Kobu's kiln is SO small he hardly ever fires anything larger than a chawan or sake cup. Iron glazing embellishes the lip as well as some points on the form. Sakai was named a Toki City Intangible Cultural Property in 2002--Toki is the birthplace of Shino in the 16th century--a ...click for details
