One of Japan's greatest potters of all time is Tsuji Seimei(b.1927). His anagama-fired works are exceptional and his forms contain pure Japanese aesthetics. He's a living legend, after Rosanjin the only potter to have a whole issue of TAIYO devoted solely to him; many potters here say "I want my pots to have spirit like Tsuji Seimei's work." Takahara Shoji(1941-2000) was one of Bizen's veteran potters who started in the early 1960s when there were only a dozen or so potters; now there are said to be about 600. He studied with Okayama Intangible Cultural Treasures Ishii Furo(1899-1964) and Isezaki Yozan(1902-1961) before establishing his own kiln in 1962. The thing about tenmoku iron-glazed wares is that they change dramatically according to the lightning. In a dark zone they take on a shadowy persona and in the light they sparkle and dazzle; that is when the potter is better than good. Sasaki is.
