Tsujimura Shiro is one of only a few ceramic artists to have a solo exhibition at the Chado Shiryokan in Kyoto; a deep acknowledgment of his Tea utensil mastery. We've offered quite a few of Tsujimura's Tea utensils over the years, yet this is the first chaire-Tea caddy. Still exploring new forms after decades, Kohyama Yasuhisa shows us a new sliced tower form that is a bold expression for any period in Shigaraki's long history. The solid main frame has quartz stone explosions all around the four sides, along with Kohyama's signature slices. Koyama Kiyoko(b.1936) was born far from Shigaraki in Nagasaki prefecture; she came to Shigaraki when she was eighteen and then spent some time in Kyoto studying about Kenzan and sometsuke blue and white wares. In the Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum works can be seen by Hamada, Tomimoto, Kawai, Kamoda, Leach, Shimaoka, Murata, Sakuma, and Kimura Ichiro. In fact, a full retrospective of Kimura was held at the museum in 1998- such is his importance in Mashiko- even though his name isn't that well known in the west.
