20,000 yen--Exchange Rates at www.xe.com/ucc/

I imagine this very intensely fired Shigaraki plate to be placed on a scholar's desk and used to hold his/her ink brushes. Of course that's only one possible use, I also see it hanging on a wall. Whatever use awaits it....the engaging fire 'landscapes' and green pooled glaze will surely capture the senses. Made by Okami Shuji--more about him in previous listings--it is 2.2cm.tallx24x15.5c, signed on base, no box.

This full-ripe form is another original shape never seen before in the long 1000 year history of Bizen pottery. As noted many times before, Kakurezaki Ryuichi(b.1950) has opened up new doors to what Bizen can be, and has become; he is the Heisei leader for Bizen--more about Kakurezaki at e-yakimono.net This henko-jar has a very pleasing brownish-red firing and the form is actually soothing to gaze upon. The angled ears give it a very sculptural feel and add a 'relaxed-tension' to the ro ...click for details

Here is a very animated Bizen vase by Kakurezaki Ryuichi that has much attitude in form, yet with a classic Bizen yohen firing. It dates to 1989 the time when he was starting to very much make a name for himself here in Japan and shows the reason why; a thoroughly new and innovative form based on ancient eared vases that respects tradition yet clearly expands on it. In perfect condition with a signed box, 24.5cm.tallx14.5cm.at waist, signed on base. More about this important Bizen ceramic artist ...click for details

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has a Kohyama Yasuhisa work, why shouldn't you? The list of museums is much longer than one, and of course I am being a bit facetious as we cannot often own works by artists in such prestigious institutions. Anyway, Kohyama(b.1936) is, as many of you know, a legendary Shigaraki artist who has infused his own vision into this ancient style of what Shigaraki can be in the NOW! As Soen-Roshi would jump and scream about...THIS! Here is a fine new w ...click for details
