Watanabe Akihiko(b.1959) is 'celadon master of the Tohoku region' of Japan; Tohoku meaning the northern part of Japan, snow country. He was born and raised in Hirashimizu, home of the pottery of the same name. Yet, Watanabe took it upon himself to learn the hardest of styles, celadon, plus he fires in a noborigama wood-fired kiln, one of very few in Japan to fire this way. Here is a splendid yohen celadon hachi-serving bowl with a rinka-flower design lip. The crackled glaze is deep and glistening. In perfect condition with a signed box, 12cm.tall and 28cm.wide, signed on base.
