Yamada Hikaru (1924-2001) was a founding member of the extremely influential avant-garde ceramic group Sodeisha along with Yagi Kazuo and Suzuki Osamu in the late 1940s. They brought about a sea change in Japanese ceramics, and it is not an understatement to say that many of the non-functional, contemporary potters of recent years have been influenced in one way or another by the Sodeisha group. In their latter years the members also took to making functional wares and with Yamada he formed a production kiln called the Mon kobo kiln; some of Yagi's functional works were also designed and fired there. This small haku-yu-white glazed small jar has a smooth facade and organic form. Fine for a small flower arrangement for a desk or smaller space. In perfect condition with a signed box, 14.2cm.tallx13,stamped Hikaru on base and dates to 1968.
