Okada Kanzo(b.1948) showed at the 1993 Japan Society, NYC exhibition titled 'Modern Japanese Ceramics in American Collections' and from that catalog, 'The one constant in Okada's work, which has gone through several phases, is his frequent preoccupation with unusual shapes and habitual use of abstract design....He has exhibited frequently at important official venues such as the Japan Traditional Art and Crafts, Chunichi International Ceramics and the Japan Ceramic art exhibitions, as well as Faenza International Ceramic Art exhibition in 1980.' Okada'S kiln is in Mashiko yet his work is not in the Hamada Mingei ideal, it's more cosmopolitan, chic and lively. This is a rather large tsubo-jar with the patterns aforementioned along with a smooth covering of ash glaze. A museum piece in perfect condition with a signed box, 38cm.tallx38.8, signed on base, also seen there is an exhibition number sticker, although I am not sure from where, dating back about 10 years.
