Mori Togaku (b.1937) is the originator of black Bizen and now--as many have seen--is also down by other Bizen potters. He coats the outside with a dark iron slip that fires to a black lacquer-like facade. Alone this would be quite boring and that is where the sesame-goma ash glaze comes in to balance the works. Here is a rather large Mori black Bizen guinomi with a stone burst on the side and a fine covering of goma; it has a very sublime presence. In perfect condition with a signed box,6cm.tallx7cm.,stamped on side; fired this September in Mori's 21 meter anagama.
