Shigaraki ceramic artist is totally unique in his approach to this ancient style, having more in common with a Kyoto cosmopolitan sensibility than a country potter. Should be, as Sodeisha founding member Suzuki Osamu took Kato under his wing at a very early age, right around elementary school age in fact. Suzuki was also an admirer of Kato's work as he matured in his 20s. This piece was fired just last month and continues with Kato's shinogi arched forms, this time captured in a smaller form. In perfect condition with a signed box, 15cm.tallx29x9, signed on base. We also have one larger Kato shown here as well, previews on request. Of course, he does also make classical Shigaraki as seen in the two guinomi also shown.
