Yamamoto Izuru(b.1944)is the fourth son of the late Bizen Living National Treasure Yamamoto Toshu. Izuru's known for his interesting forms and studies on clay and the combining of different clays to bring out different colors on pieces, this is called shusai. Yet, he also fires--not that often though--traditional Yamamoto style pots and here is an excellent example of that. The form is similar to that of his father---full bunrin-apple form--and the firing is a rich varied colored yohen with a magical 'clay window' towards the base streaked with ghostly hidasuki lines. Izuru studied with his father starting in 1970 after studying sculpture at Musashino University of Art in Tokyo. He's won the prestigious Grand Prize at the Tanabe Museum of Art's Contemporary Tea Forms Exhibition and is a popular Bizen ceramic artist, along with this brothers Yuichi and Yabe Atsuo. In perfect condition with a signed box, 26.5cm.tallx 26.6cm.wide, signed on base.
