Kanzaki Shiho(b.1942) is a living legend for Shigaraki-Iga and he's known around the world with works in major museums. He's been featured on the covers of many ceramic magazines(Ceramic Art and Perception #32, Ceramics Monthly Summer'97, among others) as well as having a recent documentary made about his life. What is unique about Kanzaki is his firings and the results he gets from a long firing of his anagama; his Buddhist nature also plays a deep part in his works. This Iga eared vase was fired right in front of the fire box and the results are intense rich natural ash glazing and scorch-koge markings that show just how close Kanzaki took the firing to the limit. The ears give an impression of personified strength as well as balancing the faceted form; a museum piece in perfect condition with a signed box, 23.5.0cm.tall,signed on base.
