Here is a 1983 major work by Bizen giant Mori Togaku(b.1937). It was fired in his first Samukaze large kiln--that one is 20 meters and he still uses it--and he made only three in this form. It has a silent noble form, almost like some ancient Shinto ritual object, with a soft goma-snow-like covering and of course superb tsuchi-aji 'clay flavor.' It was built by coil method and one can see the lines on the piece from that way. Mori is an Okayama Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property, his works are in both the Tokyo and Kyoto National Museums as well as the MET in New York City. This is a museum work in perfect condition with a signed box, 42cm.tallx24.4x24, stamped on base.
