Tomorrow (August 22nd) in Tokyo Koie Ryoji is set to receive the prestigious Japan Ceramic Society's Gold Award; he'll join a very select group dating back to the early 1950s and places him, as if he already wasn't there, in the legions of the ceramic 'gods.'(See the list on e-yakimono.net; JCS HP in Japanese only at j-ceramic.jp/index.html; Mihara Ken is set to receive the JCS Award tomorrow, we have an early Mihara, item #792459) Look for some photos of the exhibit and ceremony on these pages and also on Robert's 'sleeping' blog next week. As some know we have a few Koie Oribe tsubo that were offered from April 1st to June 30th of this year at the Paramita Museum in Mie prefecture. In one room there were 100 Oribe tsubo that Koie made this year, all of them. Here is one that is very prominently seen in the small museum pamphlet for the exhibition; a rare opportunity to acquire a museum displayed Koie work. With a signed box,25.5cm.tallx21.3, there is a firing crack on the base that does extend into the tsubo (does not affect the integrity of the tsubo), will not hold water, thus a lower price than usual on this one.
