Here is a very strong, natural and quite amazing in form and firing Echizen vase by the 'bear of Echizen,' Kumano (b.1955). This vase shows a pure Echizen firing, which is unsual for Kumano in that he usually blends his Echizen with a thick feldspar Shino glaze. The vase has a rich and crispy front of natural ash glaze and the back shows the beauty of the clay along with a fortuitous light blue kiln roof drip. Quite a sculptural work as is; in perfect condition with a signed box, 34cm.tallx17.8, signed on base and dates to 1989-90.
