Five Mashiko Single Bud Vases by Sakuma Fujiya
The Hamada and Sakuma families are the two most important Mashiko potter clans in the history of 20th century and the now for this world famous style. Sakuma Fujiya (b.1963.) is a fourth generation Mashiko potter and current master of the Sakuma Totaro kiln. Yes, his grandfather is the legendary Totaro, great friend to Hamada Shoji and a grand potter in his own right. Here are five single bud vases fired in Sakuma's salt kiln in various shades of blue. Each has a traditional form with jomon rope patterns on most.
