Miyao is quite the Bizen potter to watch for contemporary forms, yet for classical forms not many were better than the late Bizen ceramic artist Takahara Shoji. Takahara (1941-2000) was one of Bizen's veteran potters who started in the early 1960s when there were only a dozen or so potters; now there are said to be about 600. He studied with Okayama Intangible Cultural Treasures Ishii Furo(1899-1964) and Isezaki Yozan(1902-1961) before establishing his own kiln in 1962. Here is a yohen eared vase with a fine 'landscape' of blue ash glaze and an impressionistic double patch of 'clay flavor' on the front. In perfect condition with a signed box, 24.2cm.tallx16.5 ear to ear, signed on base.
