Outstanding scenic cameo glass panel mounted in a fruitwood tray, by Jacques Gruber; French, c1905. Ref: Blount p.123 for almost identical piece. These panels are quite rare, I see maybe one or two a year and am always amazed at the consistent, almost photographic quality of the cameo work. This particular piece has only 2 layers of glass yet 5 acid cuttings were used to produce the wonderful lakeside scene.
Measures approx. 16" x 9" over all and is in excellent condition. Signed in cameo 'Jacques Gruber' to lower right as shown. |
