| This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in England by Doulton Burslem in the 1880s. The saucer measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and the cup is 2 1/4 inches high. The set is made of fine bone china. Each piece has molded high relief designs in the porcelain. The cup has a unique shape. From the rim of the cup it puffs out and then tapers toward the bottom. The rims of the cup and saucer are slightly scalloped. The decoration on this set is truly a work of art. Each piece is divided into panels. They contain hand painted swags of fruits and flowers. The background colors are done in a matte finish. Any decoration or gilding is shiny enamel which stands out against the matte finish. There is also raised gilding and enamel beading accenting the decoration. The designs remind me of Aubusson carpets. The pattern is intricate and the subtle colors blend beautifully. Condition: Excellent. This set must have only been displayed. | ||
