| Lady on Venetian Courtyard Steps, Burr H. Nicholls, 1848 - 1915, oil on canvas, 24 1/4" by 18 1/8", signed lower right, 30 5/8" by 24 1/2" framed in gilded contemporary replacement frame, lined with scattered retouch. Artist was born Lockport, New York 1848. Studied painting in Buffalo before traveling to Paris to study with Charles Carolus-Duran. While in France painted at artist colony Pont-Aven with Frank Penfold, another Buffalo native. Exhibited Art Institute of Chicago, Boston Art Club, Brooklyn Art Association, National Academy of Design, Paris Salon, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. | ||
