| Gladiolas, Jane Peterson 1876 - 1965, oil on canvas, signed lower left, 18" by 18", 25 3/4" by 25 3/4" housed in period carved gilded frame, possibly original, very minor retouch to edges and right upper background at stretcher edge. Partial paper tag verso with date of May 1952. Artist studied Pratt Institute under Arthur Wesley Dow and Art Students League of New York under Frank Dumond. Continued her art education abroad in Paris with Jacques Emile Blanche and Andre L'Hote, Venice, London with Frank Brangwyn, and in Madrid with Joaquin Sorolla. Her floral subjects were inspired by her summer home gardens in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Member American Artists Professional League, American Federation of Arts, American Watercolor Society, Audubon Artists, Brooklyn Art Association, National Arts Club, National Association of Women Artists, New York Watercolor Society, North Shore Art Association, Pen & Brush Club, Society of Independent Artists, St. Botolph Club, Washington DC Watercolor Club. Extensively exhibited, was given over 80 one woman exhibitions in her lifetime. | ||
