Thomas Bigelow Craig, September Morning
Realist/tonalist Thomas Bigelow Craig 1849 - 1924, September Morning, oil on canvas, 12" by 18", signed lower left, housed in original gilt frame with Sevin's Fine Art, Buffalo label and possible inventory #1615, underwent AIC Conservation 2005, including cleaning, minor inpainting, report available. Artist was primarily self-taught and had limited instruction at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, beginning to exhibit there 1869. Member Philadelphia Sketch Club 1873-1876, suggesting possible instruction by Thomas Eakins. Moved to New York City 1889, then Rutherford, New Jersey in 1899, maintaining a summer studio in Woodland Valle, near Phoenicia, New York, also frequently painting in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Member Boston Art Club, Brooklyn Art Association, National Academy of Design, Salmagundi Club. Exhibited for 45 years at the National Academy of Design, as well as Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago 1893 Columbian Exhibition, Philadelphia Exposition of 1876, Society of Independent Artists.
