| American Impressionist Mary Cable Butler 1865 - 1946, A Quiet Rest 1936, oil on canvas board, 7 7/8" by 9 7/8", signed lower left, signed/titled/dated verso, 15" by 17" housed in Louis style carved distressed reproduction frame, no apparent restorations. Artist attended Philadelphia School of Design for Women, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 1896-1902, and Shinnecock Summer School, studying under William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. Also studied under Edward Redfield in New Hope, Pennsylvania and the Academie Colarossi, Paris. Exhibited National Academy of Design, Corcoran Gallery, Chicago Art Institute, Carnegie Institute, Boston Art Club, Albright Gallery in Buffalo, Cincinnati Museum of Art, Panama-Pacific Exposition, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1894-1946. Was President of the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for 15 years, member of Philadelphia Watercolor Club, Philadelphia Print Club, Philadelphia Art Alliance, American Federation of the Arts, American Artists Professional League. | ||
