| Painter, teacher Elwyn George Gowen 1895 - 1954, Retreating Wave, Ogunquit, oil on canvas board, 11 7/8" by 16", estate stamps verso, 17 5/8" by 21 5/8" housed in high quality 22K gilded reproduction frame, no apparent restorations. Artist was born in Maine, studied with Charles Woodbury at his summer school in Ogunquit, later becoming a teacher there, as well as the Boston Museum and school system, and Maine Museum of Art, Attleboro. Member of American Federation of Arts, Ogunquit Art Association. | ||
