Virginia Jeffrey Smith, Under the Archway
Virginia Jeffrey Smith 1887 - 1987, Under the Archway, sanguine conte crayon/watercolor on paper, 14 1/4" by 10 3/4" sight, signed lower right, 20 1/2" by 17" housed under glass in contemporary frame, no restorations. Artist was born Rochester, New York into a family of artists, attended Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts and later Rochester Mechanics Institute. Studied under Dwight Tryon and Hugh Breckenridge. Painted throughout the Rochester and Gloucester regions, as well as abroad during her travels. Well-known in Rochester for her long standing position as Times-Union art critic. Member North Shore Art Association and Rochester Art Club.
