| Virginia Jeffrey Smith 1887 - 1987, Loch Duich at Lochalsh, watercolor and gouache on paper, 12" by 9 1/2" sight, signed lower right, 18 3/4" by 15 3/4" housed under glass in contemporary frame, no apparent restorations. Artist was born in Rochester, New York into a family of artists, studied Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts and later Rochester Mechanics Institute, under Dwight Tryon and Hugh Breckenridge. Painted throughout the Rochester and Gloucester regions, as well as abroad during her travels. Well-known in Rochester for her long standing position as Times-Union art critic. Member North Shore Art Association and Rochester Art Club. | ||
