George Edgerly Harris, Connecticut Carnival
George Edgerly Harris, 1898 - 1938, Connecticut Carnival, oil on canvas mounted to masonite, 20 1/8" by 24 1/8", signed lower left, 25 1/2" by 29 1/2" housed in period carved gilded frame, no apparent restorations. Artist was son of Charles X. Harris, renowned painter and one of the founders of the Noank Art Colony. Studied Art Students League of New York, National Academy of Design, and the Julian Academy in Paris. Was a pupil of Charles C. Curran and of his father. Moved to Winchester, Connecticut 1934. Member of Salmagundi Club and participated in WPA's Federal Arts Project. Career cut short by an automobile accident in 1937, ultimately leading to his death from complications in 1938.
