Impressionist and Surrealist Norwood Hodge MacGilvary 1874 - 1950, Dallying, oil on canvas, 20" by 16", signed lower left with thumbprint, titled on old label verso with original price of $300, 21" by 25" housed in 22K gilded carved period reproduction frame, scattered minor retouch at perimeter/stretcher bar edges, stretcher bar impressions, figure pristine. Artist was born 1874 in Siam to missionary parents, studied under Jean Paul Laurens at Academie Julian in Paris 1897-1898 and under Myron Barlow at Etaples, France 1904-1906. Was Associate Professor of Painting at Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh 1921-1943. Member American Watercolor Society, Boston Art Club, Pittsburgh Art Association, Salmagundi Club. Exhibited Paris Salon, Corcoran Gallery, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute, Panama Pacific Exhibition of 1915.
