| Spanish Terrace by Arthur Grover Rider 1886 - 1975, oil on board, 12" by 13", signed lower right, 17 3/4" by 18 3/4" framed in contemporary gilt frame, no apparent restorations. Painter born in Chicago, Illinois. Studied Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, Academie Colarossi and Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. For 9 summers painted in Spain, influenced by Joaquin Sorolla, often painting together on the Vallencian beach. When Sorolla died in 1923, he was an integral part of the funeral cortege. In 1924 moved to and remained in Los Angeles. Exhibited Art Institute of Chicago,California Art Club, golden Gate International Exposition 1939. Member California Art Club, Palette and Chisel Club of Chicago. | ||
