A wonderful pair of Edwardian earrings in platinum-topped 14K yellow gold. The surmounts, featuring round moonstone cabochons in collet settings, suspend knife-edge drops descending to collet-set diamond above large pear-shaped moonstone cabochons. The moonstones have good blue adularescence against the pale body color. The pear-shaped stones almost have a cat’s-eye effect because of the cutting shape. The large moonstones are set in claw settings with a double gallery that allows light to enter the stones freely. The old European cut diamonds are of good quality. The platinum topping over the gold contributes to the “pale” color scheme that was so important to late Edwardian jewels. The knife-edge mountings are articulated, so the earrings have a lot of movement when being worn. Tested and guaranteed 14K and platinum.Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, earwires are probably replacements. Size: 2-3/16” to top of earwire. Weight: 7.9 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, .1 ct; moonstone, 14.42 cts.

The oval mixed-cut amethysts have medium-dark, vivid reddish-purple color and are well-matched. The small old European and brilliant cut round diamonds add a restrained bit of sparkle. The amethysts are set in a way that makes them appear the float in the larger gold links, creating a sense of lightness in the bracelet. The clasp is marked “14K”.Origin: America, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent. Size: 7-1/4” long, 3/8” wide. Weight: 14.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, .24 ct; amethyst, 14.0 cts.

A very nice extended set of cufflinks and shirt studs, worked in 14K yellow gold and mother of pearl by Larter. The double-sided cufflinks have concave oval mother of pearl faces centered by a simple gold disc. Both the large and small studs are made in the same manner, but are in the traditional round shape. Originally, the larger studs would have been used for the waistcoat and the smaller studs for the shirt. When wearing true “white tie”, the set can be used exactly in this way, but for use with a tuxedo, the owner can choose to wear either the large or small set in the shirt’s buttonholes. The mother of pearl has very nice iridescence and a glossy surface. Each piece is marked “14K” and with Larter’s hallmark.Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: cufflink faces, 11/16” x 7/16”; large studs, 17/32” diameter; small studs, 5/16” diameter.

A nice pair of vintage “Sputnik” earrings set with citrines. This style was popularized by H. Stern in the 1950s as a way to show of the company’s unparalleled access to the world’s finest colored gemstones. The design eventually became known as “Sputnik” because of the perceived resemblance to the Soviet satellite active during the early years of the space race. Generally, Sputnik pieces were set with multi-colored stones, but occasionally a piece turns up set only with one stone, as in this case. The citrines have medium-dark, strongly saturated yellowish-orange color that contrasts beautifully with the more yellowish color of the gold mountings. Marked 14K.Origin: America, ca. 1960. Condition: excellent, except for two citrines that have chips (visible upon very close inspection in proper lighting). Weight: 9.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 9.92 carats.
