A very handsome pair of modernist cufflinks worked in 18K yellow gold and sterling silver by Birks, Canada’s most exclusive traditional jeweler. The square silver faces are engraved with parallel lines and center short silver pyramids set in gold borders. The design is very pleasing. The cufflinks have toggle backs. The faces are signed “Birks” and are fully hallmarked for sterling and 18K.

Origin: Canada, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 19/32” x 19/32”. Weight: 15.4 grams.

A nice pair of double-faced sterling silver cufflinks in the "Curio Medallion" style. This design, created by George Shiebler, was intended to give the impression that the pieces were actually ancient coins excavated from the ground. The rough edges and pitted surfaces suggested centuries' of wear. Each face is decorated with the profile of an ancient Greek or Roman maiden. The backs are marked "Sterling" and have an unknown maker's mark.

Origin: America, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent, sharp detail. Size: 5/8" diameter. Weight: 9.9 grams.

An attractive pair of late Art Deco or early Modernist double-faced cufflinks, each face set with a member of the quartz family of gemstones. The stones are faceted in an unusual octagonal step cut and are enclosed in simple silver collet settings made to look like additional crown facets. The gems are amethyst, light citrine, smoky quartz and a very dark citrine with strong red overtones. The faces are joined by chains. The backs of the faces are stamped “830” for the silver content and have an unidentified maker’s mark “FS”.

Origin: Scandinavia, probably Norway, ca. 1930. Condition: excellent. Size: 17/32” x 17/32”. Weight: 10.0 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: 11.56 carats.

A heavy pair of sterling silver cufflinks in an abstract modernist design. The studio was founded in Georgetown, Colorado by Scandinavian immigrants Stig and Astrid Gusterman in 1950. The cufflinks are entirely handmade and are signed with the mark used until 1964.

A nice pair of Art Deco sterling silver double-faced cufflinks decorated with translucent enamels. The square faces have canted corners and are finished with a design of circular dove gray enamel surrounded by a border of dark green. The silver surface under the gray enamel is worked in hammered pattern that shows through the enamel, while the green area is worked in a foliate pattern. The choice of color and contrasting engraved patterns is unusual and very attractive. The backs are marked “Sterling”.

A handsome pair of Art Deco gilt silver cufflinks, the ends decorated with engine-turned engraving in a pattern of lines and dots. The faces have a concealed spring mechanism that allows them to be pulled out and then flipped up to hold the cuff tightly in place. The cufflinks are fully hallmarked with the board’s head guarantee mark and an unidentified silversmith’s mark (GP flanking a cross).

A very nice pair of Art Nouveau sterling silver cufflinks by Unger Bros. Each of the oval faces features a stylized design reminiscent of pine needles swirling around a central boss. The design shows a clear trend toward a more geometric style that eventually grew into Art Deco, rather than the swirling, feminine lines of classic Art Nouveau. The faces are connected by oval links. The backs are stamped with Unger's hallmark.
