Marble cameo bust set against a black background (glass?) enclosed in a sgrafitto-carved alabaster frame. The identity of the cameo subject is unknown, but the laurel wreath would indicate that it is probably of a Roman emporer. Rare and stunning blue agate letter opener. The stone is banded in shades of blue with accents of green and cream. The original box is stamped "Emil Gerber Jr/Steinschmuck/Jdar Nahe/z.S. Bad Landeck". Hardstone implements (steinschmuck) were popular Victorian souvenirs of the German spas.
