A very fine Imperial Russian lacquer box by Vishniakov. The lid is decorated with a winter scene showing an empty troika, still tethered to its horse, located just outside a snow-covered log building. The scene is beautifully detailed. The interior is lacquered in the dark rust shade characteristic of Vishniakov.

A very nice Victorian tartanware paper knife in the form of a pocket knife. The cover is in the McBeth tartan. The folding blade is carved from bone or ivory (the blade is too thin to be able to tell with certainty). Tartanware became popular in the mid-19th century because of Queen Victoria's fascination with Scotland. The colorful plaids were transformed into an enormous array of objects for daily use.
A delightful and rare Victorian tartanware egg timer covered in an unidentified red, green, black and yellow. The top and bottom plates are in an unusual horseshoe shape. The posts are covered in tartan, as well. Exposed areas of wood are ebonized. The tartan is not named, and the piece is marked “Made in Scotland”. The timer measures exactly 3 mins.

A pretty Victorian maple swing-handle sewing basket, the interior lined with colorful pleated silk plaid. The bottom, upper frame and handles are constructed of maple, and the spindles forming the sides of the basket are ebonized.

A very fine Vishniakov lacquer dresser box, the domed top decorated with a peasant couple standing by a well in a pastoral setting. The scene is beautifully decorated, with fine attention to detail. Metallic paints highlight the figures’ clothing. The interior of the box is coated with a dark, rusty red color. The inside of the lid is stamped with Vishniakov’s mark, indicating appointment to the household of Czar Alexander II. ...click for details
Elegant early Victorian lacquered papier-mache round tray with Chinoiserie decoration depicting a court scene. The design, worked in metallic gold, silver and copper, shows three ladies in their garden overlooking the sea. One is contemplating a stringed instrument, one is tending to her robes, and the third appears to be having a cocktail! An important Imperial Russian lacquered cigarette box, the hinged lid decorated with a summer troika scene over a silver leaf background. The interior is finished in an unusual rust shade. The quality of workmanship is quite nice.

A very pretty Fedoskino lacquered papier-mache box, the hinged lid decorated with a realistic-style lake scene complet with typical birch trees found in near the Baltic coast of Russia. The scene is very finely painted. The lower corners are signed by an artist unknown to us and date "'74".

A delightful Georgian lacquered papier-maché snuffbox or tobacco box. The hinged cover is decorated with a handpainted scene depicting a court scene. The sides of the box are painted in colorful floral tracery against a dark green ground. The bottom is decorated with a large gilt medallion against a black background. A very nice folding corner shelf of lacquered papier-mache with metallic decoration of Chinese court scenes. One wall shows ladies riding in a rickshaw while the other shows ladies strolling in a court garden with their guardian. The scalloped edge of the shelf is decorated with a gilt edge.
