A pretty Victorian sterling silver watch pin designed as a cluster of forget-me-nots. The repousse work is nicely detailed and very three dimensional. The back retains the original watch hanger, extended pinstem and c-clasp. The back is marked “Sterling”.

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent. Size: 1-3/8” X 1-1/4”. Weight: 6.0 grams.

A superb Victorian silver figural watch fob and seal depicting Ariadne astride her panther. The image is a copy of the famous marble sculpture (1810-14) by Johann Heinrich von Dannecker (1758-1841) which resides in the Liebighaus Museum in Frankfurt, Germany. The figure represents the goddess Ariadne, who after being spurned by Theseus is invited to the island of Naxos by the god Bacchus. A lovely Italian micro-mosaic brooch set in a gilt silver mounting. The brooch depicts a bouquet of blue morning glories against a black background. The coloring is very nice and the mosaic work is excellent. Floral micromosaics usually feature roses instead of more uncommon flowers such as morning glories. The top half of the pendant is worked in silver decorated with four shades of opaque and translucent enamels in a spiral design that brings to mind the spiral onion domes of Orthodox churches. A wonderful Imperial Austrian silver brooch set with three reverse-carved Essex crystals by Georg Adam Scheid, the royal jeweler. The domed pin is finely engraved in a basket-weave motif and is pierced by three Essex crystals, each depicting a lap dog, perhaps a Pekingese. The dogs are well carved and colored, with tiny blue bows under their chins. The crystals never had a mother-of-pearl backing like those produced in England. These pins were very popular in the late Victorian period and were made in many different variations, often with a name worked into the design.
