A lovely enameled silver necklace from Russia’s Imperial Romanov era. The chain, formed from intricately twisted silver wire, suspends a silver disk enameled in a traditional floral pattern. The decoration is worked in five shades of opaque and translucent enamels against a stippled background. The back of the disk has a chatelaine hook that was intended to suspend a perfume flask, a watch, or some other accessory. There is no maker’s mark, but the style is typical of pieces produced in Moscow. Origin: Russia, ca. 1880. Condition: excellent, no enamel damage, all original. Size: 17-1/2” long; disk, 1-1/4” diameter. Weight: 24.0 grams. |
