A pair of Japanese Satsuma vases depicting a large grouping of flowers around the fluted and lobed necks, and on the bottom half are butterflies in flight. The two scenes are divided by a gold lines that zigzags horizontally around it. Signed Shizan Late 19th century Meiji Period Height without stands 4.75" Height with stands 5.75"

Japanese Satsuma globular vase with a continuous gold ground scene depicting one of the Imperial family preparing to go for a ride with all his courtiers. Unfortunately, a family with an ox drawn wagon is in his path and the courtiers desperately try to move them away before he comes. Signed Kinkozan, 19th century. Height 7.5"
