CONDITION: Intact with some ancient losses as seen. Traces of bright pigmentation remain. Would require a stand/support for upright display. COMMENTS: This Ancient Tang Dynasty Terracotta Male Tomb Figure Attendant appears to be bearing something, possibly an offering or one of the 12 totem animals of the Chinese zodiac. In the time when slavery was a societal norm in ancient China, living people were often buried with the dead as sacrifices. Fortunately, as time progressed, terracotta figures such as this one took the place of living sacrifices in tombs of the dead much as ushabtis were placed in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians. This is a wonderful opportunity to own an affordable, authentic artifact from the Tang Dynasty, a period regarded by historians as a high point in Chinese civilization. PROVENANCE: From an American dealer. Details will be provided to purchaser. *Prices in USD. This item is Guaranteed Authentic.
