| Uchikake once was Heian and Edo noble lady's public costume(approximately 14~18century), but as Uchikake was so bulky and hot in summer time, ladies started wearing Kosode instead(similar to Furisode). Even then, beautiful Uchikake didn't lose its standing, as peasant and other people with higher status started wearing Uchikake as wedding costume...as they still do now. So, Uchikake is definately the Queen of Kimonos. This kind of Uchikake brand new costs over $20.000 in Japan, as patterns are designed by designer after talking to bride who's going to wear, and select color, brocade, then make it just for one person. This one is made with such gorgeous colors, fabric's background color is gold and red swirl itself. Then, cranes are all embroidered with gold, but some cranes are silver. These gold colors are loomed with real gold, which makes sense why Uchikake is so expensive when it's new. Swirl pattern on Kimono is very tradational in Japanese outfit. From Edo period, they started using swirl pattern as it was regarded as appropriate pattern to show volume from Japanese women's body, and after centuries later, it's still used in formal kimonos such as Uchikake, Shiromuku and Furisode. It measures 52"wide, and 76"long. Condition is excellent! Shipping in USA is $20 and international is more. This comes in WASHI Kimono wrapper at no extra cost. We accept paypal, money order and check. Thank you! | ||
