It is oil oil on canvas 30" by 40" with framed dimensions of 44" by 54". It is in good condition and signed lower right. Koekkoek is listed in Benezit. He is known for compositions with animals and landscapes. He is in a family known for generations of painting in Holland. He also established his popularity in England.

The in-frame dimensions are 38" W x 30" H while the painting itself measures 28 1/4" W x 20 1/4" H. The amazing frame is from the 19th Century and showcases the beauty of the piece. The subject matter is Venus (in her Half Shell chariot pulled by doves) finding Adonis dead after the hunt she begged him not to go on.

Henry Schouten, Dutch, 1864-1927. Schouten was born in Indonesia and died in Gand. He was known for his landscapes with animals as the dominant subject. This large oil on canvas is in a wonderful period frame and is in good condition. It is clearly signed. The canvas measures 28" X 39.5" and framed 38" X 49.5". Schouten's paintings sell for up to $30,000.
