Gabriele Munter, German (attribution), 1877-1962. This bright lively Still Life of Fruit and a Coffee or Teapot is Gouache on paper. It is 14.5" by 19" (sight) and is signed lower left "Munter". Munter is known for Genre, Portraits, Landscapes, Mountains, Interiors, Streets, Ruins, Still Lives, Flowers and Boats. She has works in Museums and her works sell for up to $250,000 for paintings and works on paper up to $120,000.
Gabriele Münter (1877-1962) was identified with the Blue Rider group in Munich (conceived in the fall of 1911), yet her art seems closer to the Fauves and Gauguin’s Pont Aven style than to German Expressionism. Born in Berlin, Gabriele studied at a school for women in Düsseldorf – not at the academy, where women were not admitted. Between 1898 and 1901 she was in America, then she studied art in Munich later that year. In 1902 Münter was in Kandinsky’s recently organized Phalanx School. She wrote, “Kandinsky, quite unlike the other teachers, explained all problems thoroughly and intensely and accepted me as a human being. . . ." Gabriele Münter remains a significant contributor to the Blue Rider movement and a major post-Fauve German painter.

Georg Philip I the Elder Rugendas, Attr. German, 1666-1742. Schlachtenzsene oder Reiterschlact: This small scale painting of a large panorama of a battle scene with horsemen and fires is typical of the scenes by Rugendas. It is oil on a lovely wood panel unsigned as most of his paintings were. It is 10 15/16" W by 7 7/16" H in an early frame with outer dimensions of 13 9/16" W by 10 5/16"H. It is in good condition with no fissures and has a some unnoticable in painting in the sky. It is from the tome period of Rugendas and is listed as an attribution since it is unsigned. Painting by Rugendas sell for up to over $144,000 at auction. He is listed in Benezit.
