Born in Michoacán in 1962, Javier Marín has lived and worked in Mexico City since the 1970s. He studied at the National School of Visual Arts (Academy of San Carlos) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In his work, Marín has developed historically universal aspects of art. Employing the human figure as the basis for his formal language, he deals with multiple themes, ranging from the fragile nature of human existence to the condition of man capable of transforming the world, using the potential of artwork to transmit meaning to its fullest. He conceptually and physically constructs each sculpture, based on an innovative combination of diverse materials: ranging from bronze with polyester resin to resin combined with amaranth seeds, dried meat, earth, flower petals, or tobacco. Beginning in 1983 Javier Martin began to participate in group exhibitions, and three years later, he had his first solo exhibition. Since that time, with more than 50 one-man and 200 group exhibitions, his work has been presented in cultural institutions and spaces of major importance in Mexico, Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
