Jan Walraven , attr,(Dutch, b.1827), oil on canvas, verso with label inscribed "J.Walraven", 10 1/4" X 12 1/4", in a very interesting deep frame. This portrait of a child at a table with dog in a room is reflective of the tradition of genre interior paintings in dutch art. the paintings on the walls of the room refer to other styles of dutch painting. This artist often painted similar scenes of interiors and of mothers with their children and dogs. He has an extensive auction record.

Victor Gilbert, French, 1847-1933, Oil on wood panel in antique frame, perfect condition, 7.1" by 14.2", circa 1860-75. French Coastal Scene with Ships and Oyster Diggers, signed lower right. Gilbert is an extremely well listed French artist known for many different subject matters. This is one of his earlier works when he was depicting classical french land and seascapes. It is an absolute jewel, with astonishing small details giving great animation to this interesting scene. The size is perfect. His paintings sell for up to $209,000.

EMILY LOWE (American, NYC 1902-1966), "Desert Sunset", oil on canvas, signed and dated 1948 lower right, 20" X 24" in a 4" frame. Titled on reverse. This is a luminous mountain landscape in the desert in lovely pastel colors. She studied and exhibited in NYC and Paris, and was a sponsor of the Emily Lowe Awards, a non-profit project of the Joe and Emily Lowe Foundation. She was involved in many projects designed to promote artists and even donated a gallery to the Univ of Miami. Please see Who was Who in American Art for further info. In perfect condition with original frame. Sydney Laurence (1865-1940) is an American artist from Alaska with listings from $1000 to $63000. References include Dawdy, Fieldings, Mallett, Whos, etc. Can be found in Davenport under Lawrence, but is listed as signing his paintings as Sydney Laurence. Franklin and James Review lists the sale of a 9" X 6" watercolour and gouache of Mt McKinley, Alaska in 1996 for $2000.

Charles E Waltensperger (American 1870-1931) Detroit, Michigan. "Knitting in the Stable" oil on canvas, signed lower left. 14.25" X 18.25" in a wide and deep marvelous period frame and in excellent condition. The painting is a wonderful play of light and shadows and represents his interest in genre and animals. He is listed in Who was Who in American Art, Mallett and has extensive auction records in Franklin & James. He studied in Detroit and Paris c. 1886-88. He exhibited widely in Michigan & Europe and has work in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. He spent a good deal of time in Holland as well as Michigan and England.
