Narcisse Diaz de la Pena, French, 1808-1876. This large landscape is of the Le Foret de Chantilly (Forest of Chantilly), outside Paris. Diaz is known for his Barbizon Landscapes in the late 19th C. This painting is from a very good private collection. It is large, about 36" by 45" in the original French frame. It is oil on canvas, signed, and has great brushwork and thick impasto. It is a masterpiece of light and dark. It has a figure in the background and is signed. His painting sell for up to 157,000.
