Impressionist Peasants with Oxen: Frank Godwin
Frank Godwin, Riverside, Connecticut, 1889-1959. This oil on canvas is 18"H by 24"W and is signed clearly lower right. It is of a peasant plowing with a team of oxen in front of a thatched cottage. The brush work is impressionist/pointalist and quite lovely. Godwin is known as a painter, illustrator, etcher, muralist and cartoonist who studied with Flagg. He paints genre scenes, historical, children and is listed in Mallett, Who was Who in American Art, and Fieldings. His work sells for up to $10,000.
