Meiji Period c.1890 zen buddhist temple lantern signed on the bottom by the maker, Urai Masuemon, and the place of the temple, Soraku-gun, Higashibata, in Okayama south of Kyoto. The under leafs on the top have buddhist cloud patterns as well as the main body. The metal is a copper alloy mixed with a bit of bronze. The doors swing open and an oil dish with wick was placed inside. The metal needs a polish but other wise in perfect condition. Ask for shipping quote. (H:40cm; diameter:32cm)

Excellent 'aka-do' red bronze mythical shishi fu dog with tama ball. Bronze workers stopped using red bronze toward the end of the Meiji - early Taisho Periods c. 1868-1912. Fantastic Meiji Period c.1885 earthenware storage jar from Shigaraki, one of Japan's pottery and cermics centers In Edo (17th, 18th) and Meiji Period 1868-1912. Wood fired in a 'nobori gama' climbing kiln, the natural ash glazes produce startling textures and patterns. The Shigaraki clays have 'choseki' or white stone which means long life. Beautifully simple Japanese Meiji Period c. 1885 bronze double tiered flower vase. The perfect example of simple elegance, this vase signed on the bottom, 'Ko Zan Kin Sei' made by the artist, Kozan, has a lovely patinated texture and waves on the three legged bottom. Superb Edo Period c. 1860 Mokugyo wood fish zen sutra chanting drum. Used when the monks would do evening and morning chanting. The monks would beat the drum with the cadence of the sutra while chanting. The japanese characters 'kinryushi' are carved on the front, meaning golden dragon. The wood is lacquered in many layers of negoro lacquer with gold gilt. The top and bottom of both sides is worn from all the drum strikes. (H:42cm; W: 45cm) Ask for shipping quote.

Fabulous Shigaraki Meiji Period c.1890 Tsubo vase wood fired in a nobori gama kiln. The natural wood glazes have created a mosaic of textures and colors. The firing process takes 3 full days of constant burning of wood in the kiln to keep the temperatures just right for the spontaneous glazes. Perfect condition.
