Beautifully elegant hand carved Meiji Period c.1900 wood zen temple candlestands. This pair would have been on the altar of a buddhist temple. Copper rings and metalwork. Beautiful Meji Period c.1900 negoro lacquer wood stand. Negoro lacquer was a technique developed by the zen buddhist monks at Negoro-ji temple south of Osaka in Edo Period to support their temple. Hemp gauze is applied to the wood stand then a black lacquer layer and over it, red lacquer.
