In perfect condition, the bowl has three different scenes painted: swallows flying among mountains; camelia flowers against a red backdrop; and the auspicious pine, plum, and bamboo together symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. Beautiful antique Japanese Meiji c.1890 porcelain 'jubako' food storage container. Inban or printed gourds in cobalt blue create a fascinating design and decorative masterpiece. Gourds have traditionally been regarded as lucky charms. They are commonly used as cartouches for the titles of woodblock prints and signatures of print artists. The gourd was also thought to symbolize rebirth and imortality. This Jubako is in excellent condition. c.1890. (6" diameter x 9½") (15cm diameter by 24cm).
