Fabulous antique Japanese Shigaraki tokkuri sake jug dated early Meiji Period c.1885. The trademark Shigaraki green nagashi striped overglaze is on a white hagi underglaze at the top while the base is a dark blueish-black contrasting glaze. There is a spot in the black where the glaze didn't take in the kiln leaving us a glance at the original clay, which rather adds to this piece's wonderful allure and charm. No cracks. c.1885. Unusual antique Japanese ceramic flower vase with hexigonal rim and Buddhist clouds in silver painted on as an overglaze. Rich hues and siver clouds give this vase a wonderful texture. Dating from the late Edo Period c.1860, this fabulous antique Japanese Seto ceramic vase is signed and in its original box. Written on the box is 'Koseto Heishi' meaning 'old Seto vase, narrow neck'. Also on the box are the characters 'Kabin' meaning 'flower vase'. The signature is also on the box but the characters are difficult to read as they are in the old script. Turn of the century c.1900 antique Japanese sake vase from Shigaraki, one of Japan's seven famed ceramic kilns, located just outside of Kyoto. The glaze is a mixture of lively blue greens creating an aurora effect. Slight `kamakizu` or kiln scar on one side but this adds to the wabi-sabi. (16" x 9½") (40cm x 24cm). Antique Japanese Meiji Period c.1900 Shigaraki shochu wine jar used for transporting shochu rice wine to the ancient capital of Kyoto. Shigaraki was one of the most famed kiln centers outside of Kyoto, known for their distinctive glazes, tea utensils and stoneware. The blue and green alternating striped overglazes were a trademark Shigaraki look. Crackled glaze. Perfect condition. c.1900. (21" x 12") (53cm x 30cm). Oribe-ware comes from Mino clay one of the six great ceramic centers in ancient Japan. The blue-green Oribe colors are distinctive for their iron decorations in their glaze.
