From the famed Oribe kilns in Mino, this antique Japanese tea set epitomizes the Oribe look created by Furuta Oribe characterized by olive greens against beige backdrops and rich iron glazed markings. Considered wild in late Edo c.1860, this look was highly sought after by the upper classes and tea people. This set consists of 5 cups and tea pot plus a side pot which was used to slightly cool off the boiling water used for making green tea. c.1860. Meiji Period c.1905 antique Japanese tea leaf storage jar 'chatsubo' with trademark shigaraki green drip 'nagashi' overglaze on a white hagi base. Shigaraki was one of the seven great kilns in ancient Japan. Slight, short hairline on the lip but doesn't detract from the aesthietic of the piece at all. Super value at $230. c.1905. Beautiful Okinawa Bingata series of three large kimono stencils. Bingata kimonos were made to order for the royal aristocracy of the Ryukyu islands of Southern Japan and only very wealthy commoners and remnants of the nobility still ordered it from the few dyers who continued to produce it after the islands became Okinawa. Most bingata kimonos display brilliant colors and repeated patterns flowing in rythmic, bold large-scale designs. c.1950. (36" x 20") (92cm x 51cm).
