From the famed Nishijin weaving district in western kyoto, this double-sided wide Maru Obi is of the finest silk, and has Noh taiko drums and cranes highlighted. c.1900. (12'9"x12½") (3 metres 62 cms x 31cm).

The 'tsumami' or lid handle is one of the most interesting works of bronze we have seen on a tetsubin lid. The mukugen kettle handle is of solid thick iron as is the entire piece. Small flowers are carved into the sides. c.1900. (8"x7½") (20cmx19cm).

This tetsubin was made by the legendary Ryubundo Ironworks of Kyoto famous as the crafters of tea utensils since 1770. Completely adorned with the mokko flower motif, this tea ceremony kettle has a lovely symmetry and a robust appearance. c1895. (10"x7½") (26cmx19cm).

Bamboo was woven into a square base design which rounds at the top. Very difficult feat for basket makers. The bamboo handle has wisteria vine wrapped around it that cascades down and ties on both sides. Late Meiji c.1890. (13½"x8") (34cmx20cm).

With the subversive Christian Movement active in Kyushu in southern Japan where the Portuguese Missionaries were strongest, this cross is a rare and interesting adaptation of Christianity and Buddhism. Though difficult to date precisely, it's said by the Dealer that Kodo Arts obtained this item from that it was made towards the end of the Edo Period 1800-1850. (9¾"x7½") (25cmx19cm).
